• Mindfulness and the Alexander Technique

Alexander Technique and Craniosacral Therapy with Daska Hatton

The following is a definition of Mindfulness:

“Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to, and seeing clearly whatever is happening in our lives.  It will not eliminate life’s pressures, but it can help us respond to them in a calmer manner that benefits our heart, head, and body. It helps us recognise and step away from habitual, often unconscious emotional and physiological reactions to everyday events. It provides us with a scientifically researched approach to cultivating clarity, insight, and understanding. Practicing mindfulness allows us to be fully present in our life and work, and improve our quality of life.”

It could also be a description of the Alexander Technique. Before I embarked upon my Alexander Technique life I would read paragraphs like the above and think, well yes that’s all very well, but HOW do I go about this and I would then feel even worse than before!

The beauty of learning the Alexander Technique is that we show you in a very practical way how to be mindful in everyday life.  How do you sit, how do you stand; where do you hold tension, do you need to, do you even notice?

The Alexander Technique is a technique for living, it is experiential, so it cannot be described in words.

Come and find out, and you might just improve your posture at the same time, but remember that :

The Way that can be spoken of

    Is not the constant way

The name that can be named

    Is not the constant name
